First of all, it seems like they were losing and he couldn't see his dad anywhere. Second of all, he was very competent in his skills not knowing the threat that was hiding. It is definitely better than someone like deku or osamu himself who get into fights knowing they have 0 chances of winning. They won because the plot needed them to.
